At STaSS we are making a real difference in people’s lives. We believe there is hope and happiness for everyone who is living with or closely affected by HIV and or Hepatitis through providing effective health and social care services. We believe that stigma can be challenged and infection prevented through effective education and outreach programmes.
STaSS is a place where people come to talk about their experiences, receive advice that is helpful to them, access services that improve their lives and meet others for peer support and friendship. STaSS is an inclusive organisation, responsive to the needs and experiences of people of all ages, abilities, ethnicities, genders, religious beliefs and sexual orientations.
STaSS is the abbreviation for Shika Tamaa Support Services. Shika Tamaa means, “Living in Hope” in Swahili, the language spoken by most Eastern and Southern Africans. A name in Swahili was chosen because at the time of formation the highest percentage of the people living with HIV/AIDS in Milton Keynes and not engaging in services were of Southern and Eastern African origin.
